I began painting in 2003 under the extraordinary tutelage of Wimberley artist, Lilli Pell. Those first lessons sparked something within my soul and I have continued that journey, learning and growing in my art throughout the years. Although now retired, my career in eldercare transformation joyfully lead me to many beautiful locations, and I was able to build my painting skills while exploring such beautiful places as Hawaii, Australia, the Yucatan Peninsula, Aruba, Nova Scotia, Colorado, California, upstate New York, and my home of the Texas Hill Country.
My painting style is best described as representational. Primary subjects include landscapes, animals, flowers, and children. I am inspired by the colors of nature, the play of shadow against light, and lines and patterns found everywhere. I am drawn to bright colors and glimpses of light, and I love to layer transparent colors to produce a luminous quality to my paintings. My images are created from a variety of media including oils, watercolor, acrylics, photography, and digital collage.
I have illustrated three books. Musings + Art from Elderhood and Hope Rising: More Musings and Art from Elderhood, created in collaboration with author Jeff Jerebker, are two small books with a series of thought-provoking essays.
The Forgotten Faeries tells of a time when children were surrounded by Faeries who taught them how to be in a loving and beautiful world and how that world changed.
